Golf del Sur opened for play in 1987 with a major professional tournament that would mark the start of a significant track record in sporting events. Pepe Gancedo created an unusual design at this coastal course that was later remodelled by Manuel Piñero.
A 27-hole course set among ravines, featuring attractive native plants and flowers including cacti, palm trees and other colourful species. The 13th hole, a par four, is one of the most difficult on the northern round. The wide fairways are flanked by an impressive gorge of ochre-coloured rock and wide sandy roughs. Access to the green at the second hole, surrounded by a large black sand bunker, requires precision play.
